Record-high batch of heroin arrested on Tajik-Afghan border

Russian border-guards have detained a record-high batch of heroin, 260 kg, on the Tajik-Afghan border.

Head of the press service of the Russian border group in Tajikistan colonel Alexander Kondratyev told RIA Novosti on Thursday that in the morning of August 27 ten drug smugglers attempted to cross the Afghan-Tajik border and were discovered near the Moskovsky border detachment, 180 km south-east of Dushanbe. The fight began when the border-guards tried to detain the trespassers who opened fire from the small arms and managed to hide on the adjoining territory. Nine bags with 260 kg of heroin, and a Kalashnikov machine-gun with three magazines were found at the fighting place.

This year In Tajikistan over 5.8 tons of drugs containing substances were found out of which were four tons of heroin. The figure for the corresponding period of last year was 2.2 tons.
