World's third largest automaker Ford Motor Company plans to kill two birds with one stone.
The American multinational corporation is going to launch “Fiesta campaign” – to construct the car in Mexico for sale in North America, thus making it the part of a $3 billion investment in the country.
The campaign will create additional 4,500 Ford jobs and some 25,000 new direct and indirect jobs at suppliers.
The car will be constructed at the Cuautitlan facility near Mexico City starting in early 2010.
The Mk7 Fiesta was shown in concept form as the Ford Verve and made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007. It shares its platform with the Mazda 2.
Ford intends this to be a truly global vehicle, going on sale in Europe, the Far East, and North America. It will become available in North America in 2010.
The production version of the new Ford Fiesta was revealed on 14 February 2008. The car features Ford's 'kinetic' design direction, now seen across the Ford range. It will be both lighter and stronger than the current Ford Fiesta, with similar dimensions.
