Marriott International Inc launches new "Edition hotel chain"

A worldwide operator and franchisor of a range of value and luxury hotels and related lodging facilities, Marriott International, Inc, has launched a joint venture with an American hotelier and real estate developer, Ian Schrager. The new project is called “Edition hotel chain”.

The hotel chain is the first steps of Marriott International to enter the boutique hotel space, occupied by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc's W brand.

This chain is Schrager’s latest venture to create a new brand of as many as 100 hotels located in cities throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia , and another New York residence, 40 Bond Street, with architects Herzog and De Meuron.

The first hotels will presumably be open in 2010.
