No Revolt in Basra

Basra, the city in southern Iraq which was supposed to welcome the liberators with open arms continues to stand fast against the illegal invasion of Iraq by the USA/UK coalition. The much-vaunted revolt which was supposed to have taken place on Tuesday night was denied by the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) in Teheran this morning.

Abu Islam, spokesperson for the Iran-based opposition group, declared at a press conference that there was no revolt in Basra, but there had been minor disturbances.

The illegal attack by the coalition forces destroyed the city«s water supply five days ago and cut off its electricity, leaving one and a half million civilians in precarious conditions, after twelve years of sanctions had already made their living conditions miserable.
