Koders’ assets and online search engine have become the property of Black Duck Software company.

Black Duck will use the engine to enable software developers to easily search and browse source code in thousands of projects hosted at hundreds of open source repositories.

The site Koders.com contains 766,893,913 lines written in over 30 languages and identified with 28 software licenses of open source code. It’s used daily by over 30,000 developers.

Black Duck continuously searches the Internet to find source code and key project/component information which is then added to the KnowledgeBase.

As of early 2008, the Black Duck Knowledgebase was reported to document over 150,000 open source and commercial software components and their licenses.

Black Duck will advance the Koders search database with code and metadata from the Black Duck KnowledgeBase, the Waltham-based company's database of open source and third-party code. The website will remain as a free resource.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
