Abu Sayyaf leader killed

The Filipino authorities have confirmed that the Abu Sayyaf leader who was responsible for the capture of eight people in August and the decapitation of two hostages, has been killed in fighting on the island of Jolo, around 1,000 kilometres south of the capital, Manila.

Sahiron was responsible for taking eight people hostage in August. Two of these, supposedly Moslems, were released, two were decapitated and four women, all Jehovah’s Witnesses, remain in captivity.

The news was released by Lieutenant-General Ernesto Carolina, Chief of the Southern Army Group which is fighting the terrorists on the island of Jolo, after Aby Sayyaf was chased out of the neighbouring island of Basilan recently in a joint Filipino-US action.
