Teheran to resume negotiations with European Union

Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Hasan Rowhani reported that negotiations with the European countries on the Iranian nuclear programs would be resumed in August.

"We will resume negotiations with three European countries (Britain, Germany and France) on the nuclear programs of the Islamic Republic in the coming month," says the statement made by Rowhani on Wednesday.

In late June Iran suspended the negotiation process with the European countries and declared it is going to resume the production of spare parts for Pak-2 centrifuges, used to enrich uranium, and their assembly on June 29. But there are no official statements concerning the beginning of this work, so far. Last year Iran signed an additional protocol to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and assumed obligation to stop the enrichment of uranium.

The decision to resume it was caused by the withdrawal of Britain, France and Germany from the agreements reached with Iran last December within the framework of the IAEA. In compliance with the agreements the European countries should have taken measures to close once and forever the Iranian nuclear dossier at the June session of the IAEA Council of Governors, and Teheran should have voluntarily stopped work for enrichment of uranium.

The European Union, Teheran believes, violated its obligations under the pressure of the USA and agreed to adopt a tough resolution, which toughly criticized the Iranian nuclear programs for their insufficient transparency and declared the need to continue the international monitoring. Incidentally, Teheran avoided the worst -submitting the Iranian issue for consideration by the UN Security Council with a view to a possible endorsement of anti-Iranian sanctions, on which Washington insisted.
