As of today, flood in the Southern Federal District has claimed 40 /some reports say 53/ lives, the majority of them from the Krasnodar territory and the Republic of Karachai-Circassia.
Between June 20th and 23rd, rescue teams evacuated more than 20,000 people from flooded areas in the Chechen Republic. Lengthy showers have caused an emergency situation in the Chechen capital Grozny and in the districts of Grozny--Gudermes, Itum-Kali, Nadterechnaya, and Shatoi.
Water has destroyed 14 bridges, 10 power lines' pylons, a water-tower and 9 kilometres of water-pipes, damaged 933 private homes, and flooded 3,720 hectares of wheat.
In Daghestan, heavy showers have partially flooded the districts of Babayurt, Botlikh, Gumbet, Kazbek, and Tsumandin. According to the republic's interior ministry, the flood destroyed or damaged 376 buildings and ruined 34,5 kilometres of telephone lines, 46 kilometres of power lines, 57 kilometres of water-pipes, a pumping station, 31 bridges, and 301 kilometres of highways. However, water did not reach the Daghestani town of Kizlyar.
