There are Chechen and Arab mercenaries among the 28 soldiers of the Taliban movement who were killed yesterday by the US air strikes at the Taliban positions in the region of the strategically important town Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan. Well-known field commander of the Northern Alliance, general Dustum said as much. Dustum confirmed that the air strikes of the United States rendered support to his forces which are now launching an offensive on Mazar-e-Sharif. At the same time, he said, his forces will not be able to seize the town without receiving additional armaments and ammunition, but he has no helicopters to transport them. The commander also said that his forces were stationed 45 kilometres from Mazar-e-Sharif and were trying with difficulties to seize the road leading to the town. Apart from that, the general pointed out that he needed tanks, lorries, food and clothes. As to the foreign assistance, it is fully taken by another field commander - Muhammed Fahim.
