Google adds voice recognition tool to its services

Need to quickly find your flight number as you're heading to the airport? Or maybe you can't remember where your friend said to meet her for dinner? No problem. Just ask Google. And there's no need to type. Instead of pulling your car over and scrolling down through your email searching for your flight information or your friend's email about dinner, Google's new feature will enable you to type or ask out loud, "What's my flight number?" or "Where am I meeting Renee for dinner?" Google is adding the voice recognition tools that have been found in Google Now to Google Search, reports Computerworld.

The move is part of a broader Google effort to develop useful services that can be operated through conversational, spoken commands - like the celebrated computer on "Star Trek." While Google may be further along than most of its competitors, Gartner analyst Whit Andrews said other tech companies, including startups and giants like Apple and Microsoft, are working on related services, informs San Jose Mercury News.

The report added that those concerned about privacy or simply do not wish to use the feature can disable it from the settings menu, says Times of India.
