The House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Education and Labor, and Ways and Means announced the introduction of a single bill that was developed by the three committees; and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee began considering its version of health care reform, Nation's Cities Weekly reports.
According to Barack Obama, there is widespread agreement on the steps necessary to make the health care system work better. He described our health care delivery system as “a system where we spend vast amount of money on things that aren't necessarily making our people any healthier; a system that automatically equates more expensive care with better care,” CCH reports.
Meanwhile First lady Michelle Obama stepped into the health care policy debate this afternoon, criticizing the current state of care in America and announcing the release of $851 million in recovery funds to support community health centers. The first lady's Office says the grant money will go toward upgrading and expanding more than 1,500 health centers across the country, ABC News reports.
