Eight powerful sources of ionising radiation were discovered in the capital city of Chechnya Grozny. Two of them, 55-kilogramme industrial containers, were put on Tuesday into a special immobilizer, organised on the site of a nuclear waste burial near the village of Tolstoi-yurt. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said that these dangerous finds have been discovered in the last five days in the Zavodskoi and Leninski districts of the Chechen capital city in surveying the territory of the Krasny Molot chemical plant and School No 38. Irradiation power sometimes exceeded 400 milliroentgen/hour. Emergencies Ministry specialists will hold decontamination of the terrain in the next few days, RIA Novosti reports. The last time when they did such work in Chechnya was last summer. Then, a special operation for gathering and localisation of powerful ionising radiation sources by robots was conducted at five industrial works in Grozny. That operation removed from the agenda the threat of environmental catastrophe in the Chechen capital and ensured safe running of important industrial facilities.
