Ukraine’s food protest against the war in Iraq was held near a McDonald’s restaurant in Kiev’s Kreshchatik Street: passers-by were treated to Ukrainian lard
On Friday, the association of Ukraine’s humanists organized an action to distribute sandwiches with lard for free near an American public catering restaurant, McDonald’s. The organizers of the action guaranteed that the traditional Ukrainian delicacy was an ecologically pure product. They said that the pig from which the lard was taken was alive just two days ago; the animal was sacrificed to the altar of war as a protest against America’s food symbols, hamburgers.
The management of the McDonald’s restaurant and law enforcement officers didn’t disturb the humanist action. It makes sense to mention it was the USA that first launched food protests in the address of France when French fries were renamed into Freedom Fries and French Toast became Freedom Toast. This was the way the USA criticized France’s position concerning the war in Iraq. In revenge, French cooks in Hamburg restaurants crossed out of the menu traditional American drinks coca-cola, whiskey and other drinks and also ketchup.
But one pacifist website organized the most eccentric action: they say visitors of the site should send George W. Bush pretzels, the same with which the US president once choked.
