Streets and avenues of Volgograd (Stalingrad until 1962) are festive awaiting the 60th Anniversary of the Stalingrad Victory over Fascists to be celebrated on February 2.
The city's major highways are flashy with war-related posters and congratulations on the glorious anniversary. The imposing monument in memory of the greatest World War II battle, Mamayev Kurgan, underwent some changes. Now even at night the symbolic figure of the Motherland is seen from virtually anywhere in Volgograd. In the dark, the sculpture is illuminated with over 30 super-powerful floodlights.
Over 2,500 guests are expected to arrive in Volgograd to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Stalingrad Victory over Fascists. Among them are participants of the Stalingrad battle, numerous delegates from fraternal cities and hero cities, members of the Russian Government and State Duma deputies. The coverage of the festivities in Volgograd is undertaken by over 100 foreign journalists and over 150 media representatives from various regions of the Russian Federation.
