Over 24,000 people are still freezing in unheated homes in Russia's Central, North Western and Far Eastern regions, reports the federal Emergencies Ministry.
The Leningrad region is in the direst straits, with 18,737 people in 106 residential and administrative buildings suffering from cold, the Ministry told RIA Novosti Wednesday.
A total of more than 1,600 people, 219 pieces of equipment and vehicles are being engaged in dealing with the aftermath of the accidents at heating stations across Russia, including 159 Emergencies Ministry workers and 31 pieces of equipment, according to the Ministry.
