Russian aluminum giant could collaborate with China

The Russian Aluminum company (RusAl) considers China a possible partner inconstructing a new aluminum plant in Siberia, RusAl deputy head AlexanderLivshits stated to journalists in Shanghai. According to him, it is plannedto build the plant in the Irkutsk region. Its planned production capacityis to be 500,000 tons of aluminum per year. Livshits pointed out that thecompany was currently holding negotiations on searching for a partner forcooperation on the project. At the same time, he did not specify the amountof investments necessary for the implementation of this project. Livshitsalso reported that the personnel of the plant would be about 4,000-5,000employees.The businessman told journalists that RusAl was considering China as apossible partner for cooperation on a project in New Guinea, too, whereRusAl had a license for the exploitation of bauxite deposits.
