Russian passenger aircraft escapes missile attack above Syria

On Monday, April 29th, a Russian civilian aircraft narrowly escaped a missile attack in the skies over Syria. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the information, saying that the incident occurred at 04.55 MSK.

When crossing the airspace of the republic, the crew of the airplane of North Wind airline, flying on the route Sharm el-Sheikh-Kazan, saw combat action on the ground, which, in their opinion, could pose danger to the aircraft and the passengers. There were 159 people aboard the plane.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry takes emergency measures to clarify circumstances of this situation and maintains a close contact with the Syrian authorities," spokesman for the ministry, Alexander Lukashevich said.

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency proposed to ban civil flights above the areas of combat actions.
