India Reports 558 Swine Flu Cases

The first South African to die from H1N1 flu was a "healthy young man" who lived life to the full.

Ruan Müller, a fourth-year student in polymer sciences at the University of Stellenbosch (US), died last Tuesday, just two days after his 22nd birthday, and only a few days after his band's first performance in front of an audience , News24 reports.

Meanwhile, a day after a city girl succumbed to swine flu, authorities today swung into action quarantining 27 contacts of the 14-year-old besides putting on medication the staff of the hospital which came in contact with her , Press Trust of India reports.

However, a ministry statement says the girl died in a private hospital in the western city of Pune late Monday after being ill for more than 10 days.

The statement says India has reported 558 swine flu cases of which 470 have been released from government hospitals after being treated , Wall Street Journal reports.
