Vova Putin tomatoes

Everything is all right with the respect and love of President Putin by the Russian people. At least, there are countless pictures, posters, postcards, ect. depicting Vladimir Putin. The president has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction about the ways that people go about honoring his persona, but no one is likely to forbid inventive businessmen from gaining profits from the president's image.

The president's popularity sometimes takes very unexpected forms. There is a botanist living in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, his name is Nikolay Yegorov. He is fond of growing tomatoes; he has already created 13 different kinds of them. Nikolay has an affection towards one kind of his tomatoes: large vegetables with undemanding and frost-resisting seedlings. Nikolay Yegorov thought that his new strand should bear the name of the Russian president, Vova Putin tomatoes (Vova is short for Vladimir).

Nikolay Yegorov went to the Russian Patent Bureau with this idea. However, as the BBC reported, the officials did not share the botanist's enthusiasm. They decided that giving vegetables the name of the Russian president was servility. Anyway, it is not clear if it was their own idea to make such a ruling or if it was an instruction from above.

However, the man did not agree with the decision of the patent bureau. Like he said, Vova Putin tomatoes are the best in his collection, and they deserve the Russian president’s name. However, this is just a dream.
