Edinburgh weavers are meeting President Vladimir Putin with an imaginative gift, tartan of unprecedented colours. Each Scottish clan wears tartans of special design and colours, so Russia's President will make a clan on his own.
As he appeared in Edinburgh today, the President met local community activists and spokesmen of Scotland's business. He said he could not but come to Scotland's principal city on his current state visit to the United Kingdom - especially after Prime Minister Tony Blair, of Scottish stock, advised him to do so.
"I asked Mr. Blair yesterday whether he played the bagpipes. He said no," President Putin laughingly added.
