After the recent visit by the Czech parliament delegation to Nizhny Novgorod, both sides have agreed to wider bilateral cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod region and the Czech Republic, said Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gennady Khodirev, Czech Parliament International Relations Committee Chairman Vladimir Lashtuvka and Czech Republic Ambassador to Russia Yaroslav Beshta.
Khodirev said that 'economic, cultural and humanitarian ties with the Czech Republic in the region are fairly well developed, therefore today we would like to develop tourist ties.' He also said that the first step in this direction could be the recent opening of a charter airplane route between Nizhny Novgorod and Prague. Moreover, the Czech Republic side expressed a readiness to open a consulate in Nizhny Novgorod.
Bashta brought attention to the perspectives for economic cooperation between the region and the republic. He said that cooperation between the Czech Republic and Nizhny Novgorod Region business people in the run up to the Czech Republic's entry into the European Union would open up the EU market for Nizhny Novgorod trade goods. He also said that the Czech side is interested in a business partnership with Nizhny Novgorod Region residents thanks to 'extremely attractive economic and political climate for foreign investment in the region.' The Czech Republic delegation was in Nizhny Novgorod for a one-day visit on June 6.
