The UN Security Council has demanded to release immediately the people taken hostage in Georgia's Kodori gorge on Thursday. These are three military observers and an interpreter of the UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG).
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the UN Security Council denounced the attack on the UN peacekeepers, demanding to find the culprits and bring them to justice.
According to the Security Council, the incident was an attempt to undermine the Georgian-Abkhazian peace settlement, the prospect of which became more feasible following the recent agreements of the presidents of Georgia and Russia.
The hostages are a Danish and two German citizens. According to information from Tbilisi, units of the Georgian Defence Ministry are conducting the search for hostages.
