Russia Is Inclined To Conduct Negotiations With USA On Further Reducing Offensive Arms

Russia is inclined to conduct negotiations with the USA on the further reduction of offensive arms with the unconditional maintenance of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty of 1972 as a basis of these reductions, Igor Sergeyev, presidential aide for strategic stability, told the State Duma. Russia is forming its position "on the multi-variant basis, depending on the position of the opponent," pointed out Igor Sergeyev. Our main aim in this question, he underscored, is to preserve strategic stability in the world. According to Igor Sergeyev, in relations between Russia and the USA strategic stability will be of great importance. The President's aide pointed out the importance of preserving peace, strategic stability, confidence and the system of procedures and control over the reduction of strategic offensive arms, which has been existing for many years now. Touching upon the Russian initiative of creating a European missile defence system, Igor Sergeyev said that the Europeans' interest in it had grown of late.
