President Vladimir Putin of Russia has met with the UN Secretary General. Their meeting took place in Mr. Annan's office on the 38-th floor of the UN building in New York City. The conferees discussed the global anti-terrorist effort and Afghanistan developments. During the meeting, which was held in a hearty atmosphere and was rich in content, Kofi Annan thanked President Putin for assistance Russia has been giving the United Nations. The sides deemed it necessary to build up international anti-terror efforts and pointed to a huge potential to do that. Messrs. Putin and Annan found it necessary that all countries join effective anti-terrorist conventions as soon as possible. When touching on the Afghan developments, they agreed that the UN has to play a leading role in Afghanistan settlement. Apart from that, the Russian president reported to Kofi Annan on the outcomes of the Russo-American summit. The UN Secretary General was pleased to note that Russia and the USA are developing good relations, something from which the entire world stands to gain.
