India intends to provide 15,000 tons of food as humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in February 2002. The Indian authorities are negotiating with representatives of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) on the details of the aid. Basically, India is to supply grain and flour to Afghanistan. The food is to be carried by rail via Pakistan, Indian media said on Tuesday referring to a WFP representative. The WFP authorities are discussing this issue with Islamabad and express hope that it will have no objections. However, if there are some problems, the food may be shipped to Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for Afghan refugees.
