Ambassador of Greece, the EU current chairman, to Russia Dimitrios Paraskevopoulos hopes that the Russia-EU summit due in St.Petersburg in May "will be able to reach a visible progress" on prospective introduction of a visa-free regime between Russia and the EU.
The necessary measures have already been specified, he said.
Thus, Russia needs to strengthen its border control, to make the infrastructure of border defence more efficient, to develop cooperation in fight against organized crime and illegal migration, as well as to sign an agreement on readmission /return of illegal migrants/, the ambassador pointed out.
Head of the European Commission's delegation to Russia Richard Wright said in his turn that the EU was "eager to reach a significant progress at talks with Russia concerning readmission." Russia has already begun discussing the issue at bilateral consultations, he recalled.
