Ukrainian people's deputy Leonid Grach believes that the holding of the Year of Russia in Ukraine "will help solve many problems faced by the country." Tuesday's report of the press service of the all-Ukrainian association "The Heirs of Bogdan Khmelnitsky" reads that "a long-awaited breakthrough in Ukrainian-Russian relations is taking place now." The people's deputy of Ukraine believes that boosting Ukrainian-Russian relations will make it possible to solve the most serious humanitarian problem - "to give the Russian language the equal status with the Ukrainian language." According to him, giving the Russian language an official status "is the problem of the political, social, moral and intellectual health of the nation." The issue of the Russian language status does not amount to inter-ethnic relations, "since most Ukrainians have a good command of it," the deputy believes.
According Leonid Grach, the holding of the Year of Russia in Ukraine will positively influence the development of Ukrainian-Russian relations and will create the necessary conditions "for Ukraine's early accession to the Eurasian Economic Community."
