Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov is to make an official visit to Moscow from January 20 to 22. According to Parvanov's administration, the purpose of the visit is to resurrect former ties between Bulgaria and Russia. Official sources say that Parvanov intends to sign an agreement with Vladimir Putin on increasing trade and easing visa procedures between the two countries. The Bulgarian President believes that ties between Sofia and Moscow need to be returned to the state they were in at the start of the 1990s.
The Bulgarian President is also expected to meet the All-Russian Patriarch, Alexei II, while in Moscow and receive an award 'For outstanding actions to strengthen the unity of Orthodox nations.'
