Schumacher back home

After six months in hospitals following his skiing accident in Meribel, France, in December last year, the former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has gone home to continue his recovery, which, doctors say, will be "long and difficult".

Michael Schumacher was skiing off piste in December 2013 when he hit his head on a rock and despite wearing a protective helmet, suffered severe brain injuries which required two operations to remove blood clots and an induced coma which lasted for six months until June to reduce swelling on his brain.

Now he travels to the family home on the shore of Lake Geneva. The family has requested that the media respect their privacy as they go through this difficult moment together.

Michael Schumacher was born on January 3, 1969. He had a record 91 wins in Formula 1 with 155 podium finishes. He won the Formula One championship in 1994, 1995, then in five consecutive years from 2000 to 2004.

Since he retired from Formula One, Michael Schumacher has dedicated himself to humanitarian projects.
