A culture tourist project entitled 'A Train of Culture' is being jointly carried out by the Finnish Province of Oulu and Russia's Republic of Karelia. The parties expect to assist the cultural integration of the two regions and the development of passenger transportation between them.
According to the Finnish coordinators of the project, the 'Train of Culture' will take off under the motto 'To Carry People, not Just Timber!' Within a week's time, the train will pass through Arkhangelsk, Belomorsk, Kostamuksha, Vartius, Kayani, Oulu, Nurmes, Jonesuu, and Petrozavodsk. The train will also stop elsewhere along its way, at Taivalkoski, for once. The voyage will end on June 29, jubilee festivities in Petrozavodsk following.
The project is expected to cost about euro 200,000.
