Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the role and importance of the Constitution to strengthen the basis of Russian federalism.
"It (the Constitution) contains the bases to develop a market economy, democracy, to develop the country in general and preserve its territorial integrity," the President said when speaking at the legislators' council in the Kremlin. "These are the targets of criminals and terrorists we have to fight against every day. Unfortunately, today has been no exception," he said referring to the terrorist attack at the National hotel.
The session is held three days ahead of a significant day, the 10th anniversary since the adoption of the Russian Constitution," Putin pointed out.
"The importance of the document for our country, for Russia's political and legal development and growth of its international authority cannot be overestimated," the Russian leader believes.
According to him, only after the adoption of the Constitution "Russia became a truly federative state that guarantees equality of all constituent members of the federation, takes into consideration and preserves the historical traditions of regional variety".
