Russian President Vladimir Putin has commended the results of the G-8 summit in Evian. According to the president's press office he said that members of the G-8 share the same long-term strategic interests and they are able to discuss controversial issues in an open manner, which enables them to reach mutually beneficial decisions. In Mr Putin's opinion the strengthening of the international anti-terrorist coalition and the creation of an anti-terrorist group is one of the most important results of the G-8 summit.
Russia will take an active role in the work of the anti-terrorist group and most of its attention will be directed at the CIS area and the area of the Shanghai Cooperation Agreement. The president added that a document on the non-proliferation of WMD was also an important result of the summit.
