Russian president Vladimir Putin congratulated Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze on his 75th birthday.
According to the press services of the head of Russian state, the letter of congratulation says that "Russia and Georgia have common spiritual and cultural values, rich history and long traditions, and we are determined to protect and strengthen the friendship that has passed the test of time".
Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that "the mutual efforts based on understanding of historical responsibility would bring the relations between the two countries to a level of authentic creative partnership, which would eventually allow both countries, together with regional partners and other CIS countries, to provide stability and security for the Caucasus region".
