Nizhny Novgorod region to develop local tourism

The authorities of the Nizhny Novgorod region intend to use natural conditions, historical monuments and folk arts to develop the tourist industry in the region.

"We have forests and water spaces. There are places in the Sokolsky district that are certified as eco-friendly territories. We also have 1,100 km of waterways. Fishing and hunting can be attractive occupations all the year round. The second direction is our historical monuments, our culture and architecture. The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is worth seeing! This is the only Kremlin that sits on a hilly area. We have had it renovated and put in order. The third direction is about folk arts and crafts ," Governor Valery Shantsev said at a meeting of the Nizhny Novgorod region government for the development of regional tourism.

As for the drawbacks, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Region pointed out the underdeveloped infrastructure for internal and external tourism. One should repair roads to destinations that enjoy popularity among tourists. The roadside infrastructure should also be developed - cafes and restaurants, gas stations, parking lots and overnight stays for buses

"Over the next five years, the tourist flow should be tripled to reach 3.1 million people a year, - said Valery Shantsev. - This can be achieved with the help of the World Cup 2018. People will come and see the region and then share their impressions with their friends."
