Information provided by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has led to the arrest of several members of Al-Qaeda.
The FSB carried out a number of joint actions together with the special services of the USA, Germany, France and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, arresting a number of persons involved in terrorist activity, reported FSB head Nikolai Patrushev. According to him, the FSB took part in the effort to locate and arrest Al-Qaeda members on the Russian territory.
"We provided our partners with information about [terrorists], who were later arrested abroad," he said.
He added that the FSB was negotiating for extradition of Chechen militants and terrorists abroad. "Those are bilateral talks," he specified. "I think we will get the help we need." Patrushev recalled that this help had already led to some "concrete results," namely to the arrest of criminals involved in terrorist acts in Moscow, Volgodonsk and Buinaksk.
