BlackBerry smartphones to appear in China

Alcatel-Lucent and Research In Motion Ltd. will soon start distributing BlackBerry smartphones in China.

The first smartphone offered to Chinese customers will be the 8700 model, which is expected to be available later this year, the companies said.

The agreement extends the companies' distribution frame agreement to China. The companies signed an agreement last year covering Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
