Swedish teen rescued from Islamic State

Kurdish special forces have rescued a sixteen-year-old Swedish girl who ran away without her parents' knowledge last year to join Islamic State. The girl's parents and the Swedish authorities had called on the Kurds to rescue her from where she was being held near Mosul in northern Iraq.

She claimed that she had been misled after traveling to Syria in June 2015 with another Swedish national, 19 years old, allegedly her boyfriend at the time. She is currently in Irbil and is being treated by Kurdish forces. It is believed that there were at least three hundred Swedes manning terrorist forces of ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Around 50 have been killed in combat, and one hundred have returned home.
