Andrei Lubensky: White powder found in Ukraine

An envelope with suspicious white powder was found at the customs checkpoint in the town of Glukhov of the Sumskaya region of Ukraine. As ForUm informed with reference to the press-service of Ukraine’s Ministry for Emergency Situations, the envelope was opened with all requisite security measures and the powder was sent to a special laboratory for research. It has not been said who the addressee of the “letter” was.

Immediately after the information about the “mail terror” in the U.S.A. and other countries, the company Ukrpochta (Ukrainian Mail) toughened control over the mail in the country. All suspicious letters are withdrawn and handed over to the law-enforcement bodies. However, the mail is not the only way for a biological weapon to spread. For example, there were 40 glass ampoules found on the outskirts of Kiev – right on the highway. They were not marked and had some unknown substance inside. Luckily, they were not smashed by the passing cars, so they were all sent to the laboratory. The Minister for Emergency Situations of Ukraine, Vasily Durdints, claimed that no one can give a 100% guarantee that some poisonous substances will not arrive on the territory of the country. The minister said that his department was doing everything possible to prevent that from happening: “Additional border guards are stationed to detain the illegal migrators and the vehicles and the cargo going via the check points are examined very carefully. Our attendants cooperate with the border guards, Ministry for Healthcare, and other services. The food stuffs on market places are thoroughly examined, as well as medicines and humanitarian aid.”

A miracle prevented a tragedy in the city of Dnepropetrovsk last week. An unidentified person left an explosive device in a trolley-bus full of passengers. It did not blow up because of the soaked fuse. Ukraine’s Security Service has not yet confirmed the “Arab” factor.

As far as anthrax is concerned, there are about 10 thousand cattle burial grounds in Ukraine: the animals that died of anthrax.
