Argentine soccer coach and national legend Diego Maradona will not be continuing as the head coach of the national team, according to the latest gossip. The reason was a disagreement with the Argentine Football Association President Julio Grondona over Maradona’s backroom staff. The national hero stated that he would only renew his contract if his team remained intact, according to local press reports.
Other reports from Latin America state that Maradona was furious after the AFA changed members of his backroom staff without consulting him.
However, the Argentina Football Association has not confirmed his exit. In a four-point statement, the AFA declared on Monday:
1. On Monday “The President of this association, Don Julio Humberto Grondona, held a meeting with Mr. Diego Armando Maradona so as to talk about themes related with the national soccer team”.
2. “…The President will confirm on Tuesday what are the conclusions and circumstances of the meeting”.
3. “So as to make sure the members of the Executive Committee are the first to hear, there will be no statement until after the meeting with them”.
4. “The President did not appear yesterday (Monday) at the AFA”.
So he had a meeting with Maradona or he didn’t?
