Outer space is "a positive example of globalisation: resources of many countries serve the exploration and the use of space, said Russian Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov. On Friday he visited the Cosmonaut Training Centre in Stellar Town near Moscow and congratulated the cosmonauts on the coming Day of Cosmonautics which is marked in Russia on April 12. On that day in 1961 Russian citizen Yury Gagarin performed the first-ever space flight.
The Speaker said that today the Russian cosmonauts are accomplishing "a very important task" - after the crash of the American space shuttle Columbia, they have to shoulder all the work connected with the functioning of the International Space Station.
The Russian parliamentarian expressed confidence that the first flights to the planets of the solar system would be carried out also by joint efforts of the world community.
