Former California governor and movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger formally inaugurated on Friday a museum dedicated to his life, the Associated Press reports.

The museum, located in the village of Thal, Austria, is housed in the two-story building in which Schwarzenegger was born and raised.

Among its artifacts are Schwarzenegger's first barbell, his childhood bed, several life-sized "Terminator" models and the desk that Schwarzenegger used during his tenure as California governor.

During the ceremony, Schwarzenegger unveiled an 8-foot tall bronze statue of himself, modeled on his physique during his days as Mr. Universe, the world bodybuilding championship he won four consecutive years between 1967 and 1970.

The 64-year-old Schwarzenegger, who admitted in May to fathering a child out-of-wedlock and is currently involved in divorce proceedings with his former wife of 25 years Maria Shriver, told the audience that hard work is the essence of success.

"We Austrians are proud of him and what he accomplished," villager Gottfried Karner told the AP. "But there are certain things he did that one does not agree with."
