H.B. Carlisle: How long, how long the Abu Ghraib affair?

G.Gordon Liddy, one of Richard M. Nixon's Watergate burglars went to prison for several years.  One time, he was forced to bend over to assure guards that nothing was concealed in his after region.  The guard wanted to taunt him a bit.
 
"Don't you feel a bit funny, Mr. Liddy, you having worked for the President...don't you feel funny having to bend over for me to look between your cheeks?"

"Not at all!" Liddy responded.  "I'm glad I'm not in your shoes, doing the looking."
 
The Abu Ghraib "torture" was hardly more than university hazing.  A disciplined person could take these little indignities in stride, and get over it.  There are worse forms of torture, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement.  Lopping a prisoner's head off or shooting him, that is unacceptable in a civillized society.
 
This is not to excuse the Americans of improper treatment of prisoners of war.

For Americans and other combatants in World War 2 often shot POWs when they were an encumbrance to the military unit.
