Jackie Chan sells Segway scooters

Jackie Chan decided to make business. Now Hong Kong movie star sells Segway skooters. He saw them first time six ears ago and selling this Human Transporter became his dream. In his native town authorities banned the battery-powered scooters.

"The streets are so narrow," Chan told The Associated Press at a security conference, where he was promoting Segways.

But Chan added that if the Hong Kong police need Segways, he would provide them for free. The self-balancing scooter is a "high-tech product" and could help promote the image of a cosmopolitan city, he said.

Chan said the Segway is also ideal for tour guides and security guards in housing estates.

"It is simply a cool thing to ride on," he said.

The scooters travel as fast as 12.5 mph (20 kph), and Chan said the vehicles sell for about HK$50,000 (US$6,442; 5,028). Police in the U.S., France and Singapore have adopted the vehicle.

"In 2000, I first saw it in a magazine," Chan said. "The new technology amazed me and I immediately wanted to promote it to everyone", reports the AP.
