About 15 men who were trying to break into a motorcycle store were arrested by Australian troops. Australia also prepared to send in several dozen police officers from around the country to help fill the security gap.
The weeks of unrest have left at least 30 people dead, and tens of thousands of fearful residents have fled their homes and are living in makeshift camps and shelters in and around the city. U.N. agencies have delivered emergency airlifts of food rations, cooking sets, tents and blankets.
