Kidnapping resulting in death

A 4-day-old girl who was cut from her strangled mother's womb was in "remarkably good" condition on Monday, a hospital spokesperson said.

The alleged attacker, Lisa Montgomery, was set to appear at the federal courthouse in Kansas City on Monday.

A spokesperson for US attorney Todd Graves said the magistrate would read the charge - &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2002/07/01/31527.html ' target=_blank>kidnapping resulting in death - and possibly appoint a lawyer for Montgomery, informs News24.

Meanwhile, the woman charged with strangling the mother and then taking the infant from her womb is expected to appear Monday in court in Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities say Lisa Montgomery, 36, has confessed to strangling Bobbie Jo Stinnett. She is charged with kidnapping resulting in death.

Police say Montgomery contacted Stinnett, 23, by e-mail under the guise she was interested in buying dogs from Stinnett. Montgomery drove from her hometown of Melvern, Kansas Dec. 16 to Stinnett's town of Skidmore, Missouri – a distance of about 250 kilometres.

Stinnett, who was eight months pregnant, was killed in her home while her husband was at work. Stinnett's mother found her daughter's body late Thursday afternoon and police tracked down the baby a day later, says CBC News.

According to Reuters, police also said Montgomery had told her family she suffered a miscarriage at some time in the past, though it was not known when or if she really had been pregnant. No information has been released on what might have motivated the crime.

Stinnett said the fact that his daughter survived the ordeal was a miracle.
