A cooperation agreement has been signed between the executive committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Latin American Integration Association in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
Shortly before, Yuri Yarov, chairman of the CIS executive committee, and Juan Rojas, secretary general of the LAIA, discussed possibilities for interaction between these integration associations.
The concluded agreement intends the carrying out of consultations, exchange of statistical information and technical documents regarding integration processes, economic and commercial information.
In Montevideo Yarov was received by President of Uruguay Jorje Batlle. He emphasized the importance of specific common activities of the CIS and the LAIA, noting the proximity of their goals and tasks.
The sides made a special note of the restoration of contacts between Latin America and enterprises in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries of the Commonwealth which back in the 1970s and 1980s used to supply machines and equipment to South America.
Batlle recalled, particularly, the earlier purchases of Belarus tractors by Uruguay and recommended that their resumption according to the earlier scheme be considered.
