NATO's Scientific Committee Convenes in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

A two-day-long session of the Scientific Committee of NATO opens in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, today. This is the first time such session is held in Central Asia. Discussed will be NATO's potential as to supporting scientific cooperation in the region.

According to NATO's press service, the agenda will touch upon achievements under the Virtual Silk Wayproject, which is a programme for developing computer networks in Southern Caucasus and Central Asia covering the research and study institutes of the region and connecting them with similar networks in Europe via satellite channels. Uzbekistan's scientists are expected to become the first participants of this project to be launched some time this year.

Jean Fournet, NATO's Undersecretary General for Science, is supposed to meet with the participants of the Tomorrow's Leaders regional youth seminar organised under NATO's scientific programme.
