Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal Jaime Gama will visit this year a number of CIS countries and the Baltic states. According to the Portuguese foreign ministry, these visits were scheduled within the framework of Lisbon preparations for holding the chair in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2002. In June Jaima Gama will visit Estonia and Lithuania, in July - Armenia and Azerbaijan, and in September - Central Asia. Currently the head of the Portuguese foreign policy department is on a visit to Georgia where he negotiates with the leaders of the country. According to the Portuguese foreign ministry, in the course of his meetings in Tbilisi the political situation in Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia is being analysed. Jaime Gama will leave Georgia for Austria on Friday where he will meet with chairman of the Russian government commission for Trans-Dniestrian settlement Yevgeny Primakov.
