Russian, Georgian MPs Find Compromise Solutions

At the talks between the leaders of the State Duma, the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, with a delegation of Georgian parliamentarians, the parties managed to find compromise decisions that will allow settling bilateral problems "by available means and not by reproaches that have been poured both on the Russian and on the Georgian side," said the State Duma's first deputy speaker Lyubov Sliska after her meeting with chairwoman of the Georgian parliament Nino Burdzhanadze.

During the talks the parties agreed to set up an inter-parliamentary committee on a number of bilateral issues, she said. "We cannot live by reproaches towards each other, it is time to solve the problems and start living peacefully," Sliska emphasized.

Burdzhanadze, in her turn, told journalists that the two countries' MPs had spoken for urgent resumption of talks on the framework agreement and Russian military bases in Georgia. Moreover, they supported the idea of setting up special working groups involving the representatives of the countries' executive and legislative powers on the issues of mass granting Russian citizenship to residents of Abkhazia and resumption of railway connection between Sochi and Sukhumi, she said.

"I believe that if such groups are set up and our politicians and experts sit down in front of each other and try to listen to each other, we will be able to find a way out of the present situation," Burdzhanadze emphasized.
