Astana is Concerned With Intentions of North Korea to Quit the Agreement on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

The statement of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan disseminated on Saturday in Astana indicated that "Kazakhstan was concerned with the intention of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to quit the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The document points out that "in the opinion of Kazakhstan, DPRK's exit from the Treaty on the Non-proliferation would seriously damage security and stability in the Korean peninsula and in the Asian region and would significantly weaken the global security regime." The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan appealed to the North Korean leadership to implement international obligations in the hope that through negotiations with all the parties concerned a solution would be found, including the one related to DPRK's security.
